Never Give Up

Were you ever disappointed? Have you been rejected, failed again and again, and ready to give up?  You are not alone. Moreover, you are in great company!

Every successful person has felt the same way as you do, at some point in your life. The reason why they were able to become successful is not because they never failed. It is because they were determined to never give up.

How do I never give up on life? What can I do instead of giving up?

Here are 4 steps that you can take to help you to battle on, when you are ready to quit:

Step 1: Put things in the right perspective

There was once a small baby chicken playing in a field. Suddenly a gust of wind blew a kernel of corn and it landed on the baby chicken’s head. The baby chicken was alarmed and in panic ran to its mother screaming “Mom, help! The sky is falling down!”. While we may smile at this story, most of us are like the baby chicken at some time or the other. A lot of what happens to us may seem terrible – but when we take a step back, you will find that while it may be an unfortunate occurrence, it certainly is not the end of the world. Moreover, if you look carefully, you will certainly find that what happened is a blessing in disguise, and an opportunity that you never considered before.

For example, losing your job or not being able to find a job is easily one of the traumatic experiences a person can have in their life. But some perspective will help. Did this happen only to you? Of course not. Most people have been unemployed at some time of their life. Is it convenient? Yes – of course. Maybe you would need to get by on unemployment benefits or rely on your savings and if you do not have savings, maybe you need to incur some temporary debt. At the same time, this could also be a great opportunity to retrain yourself to enter a new career that you always wanted. Maybe it is the universe nudging you in the right direction to find abundance in your life

In Dont sweat the small stuff, Richard Carlson highlights many ways in which we can avoid letting the small things in life from affecting us – and how most, if not all things are small things.

Step 2: Count your blessings

Giving thanks for what you have is a surefire way to attract more abundance into your life. This has been found true, time and again. The international best-selling book, The Secret provides several real life examples of how individuals through history have used the law of attraction to turn sorrow to joy and attract whatever they wished for in their lives.

No matter what your circumstance, there will be things that you can be grateful for. Are you able to breathe? That puts you ahead of millions of people who are dying or are in an ICU suffering from Covid-19 relying on ventilators to help them breathe. Are you able to walk? You are among the lucky ones considering that so many people around the world are handicapped and depend on a wheelchair. When you count your blessings, and give thanks to each and every thing that you have, you will come to realize that things are much better than they seemed before and that with your blessings, you do have a fighting chance to achieve what you want in life.

Step 3: Ask for help

Many of us, over time have learned to develop a tough exterior where we want to come across as someone who has figured everything out and does not need any help from anyone. We have learned to wear this mask of invulnerability to hide our true selves from society. However, it is a lot of work to put up this mask day in day out. In her seminal book Daring Greatly Brene Brown shows how the courage to be vulnerable transforms the way we live, love, parent and lead.

Many of us have a natural shyness of asking others for help. If you think about it, what is the worst thing that could possibly happen? You ask for help and they say no. Is that so bad? On the other hand, if they are able to help you, then you have progressed one more step in the direction of your dreams. So – why hesitate? In today’s world, it is not even necessary to ask another person for help. Google and Youtube have articles and videos with advice on pretty much every topic you can imagine. Just Google it!

Step 4: Identify the immediate next step

A journey of a million miles starts with one single step. A lot of times, we get overwhelmed thinking about the million mile journey when all we need to think about, is the next step that we need to take to advance in the direction of our dream.

When you follow steps 1, 2 and 3 above, you would have gained the right perspective of your situation; would have identified the many blessings in your life and would have sought help either from a person or from Google or Youtube. Step 4 is to take that very first step that you need to make progress from your situation. It could be as simple as arranging your desk, taking a shower, reading an article on investing, signing up for a course or just going for a walk. Whatever it is, just do it. Take that first step. You can be confident that you are one step closer to achieving your dreams.

Wishing you the greatest success!

I will leave you with some inspirational quotes.

Never give up quotes

“There are five important things for living a successful and fulfilling life: never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never give up, never stop trying, and never stop learning.”

― Roy Bennett

“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”

Harriet Beecher Stowe

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

Thomas Edison

“The one who falls and gets up is stronger than the one who never tried. Do not fear failure but rather fear not trying.”

― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

“Learning to let go is not giving up! It is simply passing the burden to a better fighter, so you can fight another day. (God)”

― Shannon L. Alder

“Because you are alive, everything is possible.”

― Thich Nhat Hanh

“You may be the only person left who believes in you, but it’s enough. It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness. Never give up.”

― Richelle E. Goodrich

“When I was working in my laboratory, I enjoyed the times when I believed in myself. In those days, I didn’t always succeed. But even if I didn’t, it always felt good to believe that I could.”

Dr.  Louis Pasteur

“When things go wrong as they sometimes will,

…the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

…the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit

Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Success is failure turned inside out,

The silver tint on the clouds of doubt,

And you can never tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems afar.

So, stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit

It’s when things go wrong that you mustn’t quit.”
― Edgar A. Guest
